Worms, 29.12.2015

First of all, yes, we know, that we are suuuper slow.... But we do our best)
Anyway, today We would like to tell you about the trip in Worms. It is a quiet big city in our State, so one day we were there. Let's begin!

Our second Cristmas trip (the first one was in Speyer, some day we will report it also...) started with a real winter weather – from Monday we had -1 °C – real winter for south Germany ^^

We spent 1:40 hours to reach Worms. With one change in Mannheim

When we had reached Worms, first  that we knew was

We decided to google this story at home, but in Worms it was everywhere

Worms has a really nice rail station, still with Christmas decoration.  Time of arrival – 13:15.

Shaya does not know what she should expect from all our trip.
We checked a map on an info stand and went into the city centre.

Old view of the city made based on the drawing 1630.
There are a market place and a city wall on the picture.

We went through the old streets and saw a nice fountain on every street crossing. Sadly it was too cold to stay there and understand the whole picture. We still have no idea what does it mean. It rotates.

On the edge of that fountain was this nice picture. We also do not know what that means, but it’s real money! The coins are just stuck to the stone.

And a new fountain with wine motives!

The door frame of the town hall with the emblem of the city – dragons and a key.

The variation of the emblem on the nearest building. I really like that one.

The fountain in front of the info-centre. The guy on the top is Siegfried – the dragonkiller.

The biggest church in Worms – Dom St. Peter, was built in XII century.

Friedrich I Barbarossa was a very important person for Palatinate region, so now there is a touristic bicycle route of 90 km named after him.

Nice bell tower, but we do not know more…

Other fountain that pictures a young boy who seems to be a master of dragons.

Not only dragons are favorite in Worms, but also iron birds. This mythical creatures come from the Palatinate legends.

This pictures are on the wall of public kindergarten. It is often in Germany, that kindergartens are based on the church community.

This small angel surprised us with his fine details and emotions.

This strict church – Magnuskirche. Initially it was founded in VIII/IX century. There was the beginning of the Lutheran church in Worms.

Again dragon, so beautiful and mysterious, like not in real life, but in a computer game.

The rest of old city wall (built in ~900), decorative grape on it and marvelous villa behind it.

Small green place in city centre. Shaya was already scared after several loud fireworks sounds and we tried to entertained her with jumping.

We went along an old wall and saw an ancient ugly fountain with fish decoration.

The biggest in the world Lutherdenkmal – The memorial of Martin Luther. The details were so impressing that we spent a lot of time just enjoying it.

First we saw this sculpture we thought that the man does laundry, but actually it illustrates leather-processing! Worms was earlier the centre of leather industry.

It is amazing, how people here do not like to destroy their past! Here we can see how rest of the ancient wall became a part of the living houses.

Again dragons motives on the wall painting.

This old building belongs now to the Nibelungenschule – School of the Nibelungs. It is really huge!

On our way back we saw other also beautiful school-building – Ernst-Ludwig-Schule

Rhein! We could not find the nice sand beach as on the picture on our coast of river. But there are a lot of benches and cafes.
The ship was incredible long, so that it takes two photos.

This tower is also Nibelungenturm. We found it amazing. It stays on the bridge so cars go through it.

In the tower surprisingly locates a water labor. On the info-stand we can see that water samples are taken in four places. We could even see a working labor room in the window, but were afraid to take a photo.

Small nice sculpture of fisher-boys.

Just living house….

Earlier on this place was river and a defense tower with bridge over it – Woog-Brücke. It was the main entrance into the old city. Now it is only memorial here.

Another city wall painting

We are still surely on the right way!

The biggest rest part of the ancient city wall.

Nibelungen Museum and cafe. Later (in a month) we knew more about this legend… as all of them this one is also epic, cruel and weird.

Dominican cloister on our way back to the Rail Station and to home!

So, it is the first attempt to do internet report of the trip, I am sure, w will have fun looking through it in a while)
