Kassel, 13.07.2018

The biggest journey was on weekends. We wanted to visit MPS (Mittelalterische Phantasie Spektakel) in Bückeburg, but the drive is nearly 7 hours as we decided to make one stop on the way there in Kassel and one stop on the way back in Marburg. So, Kassel.

Kassel is a somehow symbolic city for us. We've been there in our first 2 weeks in Germany, as a part of excursions in our volunteer camp. I remember this place as a wonderful Christmas market and a beautiful park. It was in December though, I wonder how it looks like in summer.
From Cyprus conference we knew two guys from Kassel University and one of them agreed to guide us through the castle park.
Our small party

The park is the biggest in Germany. It is a mix of wild English park around property and a structured French park in the front of the palace. The palace is a museum now.

Tio with our guide

The French part of the park

The beginning of the English part.

The "wild" English park was added later than the frontal French one.

As can be seen, there is a lot of water in the park. But it can be even more! In summer twice a week there is a performance called Wasserspiele, when water from a lake above the highest part of the park is freed to flow downwards, filling all reservoirs, creating multiple waterfalls and fountains! Unfortunately we didn't witness it, but it can be seen on youtube. But the park even beside the event is stunning.

Don't let all these ruins trick you, they all are artificial! They were built in 18 century in order to create the right atmosphere! successfully, truly.

An illustration of the circle of life...

Creepy...

Who is a guide now? =)

The highest point of the park - Herkules on the horizon. We visited it later, on car, because the whole way uphills takes around an hour and we didn't have this time.

With the castle in mind, we headed to take a lunch in a restaurant. Alte Wache - Old watchtower - is a very nice and friendly place nearby. We are tired and hot, but very happy =)

On the top of the park, eventually!

Herkules on the top... You see, all of it in his honour, ultimately... People are strange...

Amazing view though!..

And we are on our way, MPS is the next stop!
